ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Just Trespassing depicts two curious birds making their way into an interior space by means of an open window. Unifying the composition are cactus-like forms that cast shadows on the window frame. Windows are a common symbol in artist Stuart Nakamura's work, acting a metaphors "for seeing or revealing more than one meaning in life."
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Seattle School District.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Artist Stuart Nakamura creates sculptural, site-specific artworks inspired by the cultural history, location, and character of each setting. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in painting from the California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland in 1977. He lives and works in Seattle, Washington.
