Walla Walla Bound - Instrument Implement: Walla Walla Campanile, 2008

(American, born 1942)

Location: Walla Walla Community College, Walla Walla

ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Buster Simpson's Walla Walla Bound - Instrument Implement: Walla Walla Campanile uses tractor disc harrows to create a bell tower. The tractor disc harrows were originally used to work the local soil. The artwork is next to Walla Walla's Titus Creek. Its ringing bells celebrate the health of the watershed and the return of the salmon. The bells also mark the passage of time and how important the creek and its health are to farming: for planting, the seasonal cycles, the daily work, and more.

You can also see and read more about the creation of this artwork in a booklet created by artist Buster Simpson. It is linked as a PDF under "Lesson Plans and Documents".

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Department of Corrections and Walla Walla Community College.
