Visiting Hours, 1998

Location: Harbor Ridge Middle School, Gig Harbor

ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Visiting Hours is a painting by artist Isabel Sim Hamilton. It is part of a body of artworks that study how humans relate to themselves and their environment by casting various animals and symbols in human roles. Featuring geometric planes of color, the artist notes that this piece plays with transitions, "almost like changing languages mid-sentence, but keeping to the same story." She continues that this piece presents a space where "disconnected people/symbols wait outside of their usual habitats. Hospital waiting rooms, public exhibitions, offices come to mind where the main reason for the place to be inhabited is waiting to do something and the waiting itself creates a bond."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Peninsula School District.
