ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Waiting was taken by photographer Earl Olsen at the Arboretum on Foster Island in Seattle. This photograph depicts the Great Blue Heron, a wading bird common to Northwest wetlands, captured in a moment of repose among blooming lily pads.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Northshore School District.

Northwest photographer Earl Olsen creates his images to "see the unseen in the commonplace that surrounds us every day." He lives and works on Whidbey Island, Northwestern Washington.
