ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Artist David Wilson captured the photograph Otter Rock on the Oregon Coast in 1993. The dynamic composition highlights rock formations, cliffs, and hillsides reflected in tide pools. The artist notes, “I am drawn to compositions in which the natural beauty also incorporates some element of ambiguity, mystery or even confusion."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Enumclaw School District.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Northwest photographer David H. Wilson, Jr. creates abstracted landscape compositions that explore manipulated perspectives. This composition style allows the viewer to remove "a startling and original scene from its surroundings."

Wilson grew up in northern Ohio and earned a law degree from the University of Wisconsin. In 1974, he moved to Portland, Oregon, where he practiced law. He has had a lifelong interest and love for birding, canoeing, rafting, and the outdoors.
