Postures, 1995

Rachel Brumer
(American, born 1956)

Location: Lincoln Elementary, Vancouver

ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Artist Rachel Brumer created the quilt Postures . She made it using hand-dyed fabrics with appliqued and stenciled pieces. It is filled with a pattern of heads and hands. She positioned these figures as if they are greeting one another. A former dancer, the artist notes that her background in dance and choreography influences her work in textiles. She states, "I choreograph my art quilts concerning myself with many of the same issues as those I had in dance, the foremost being a dedication to a personal vocabulary of visual images."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Vancouver School District.
