View from 37th Avenue, 2016
Wayne Chabre
(American, born 1947)
Location: Jefferson Elementary School, Spokane
ABOUT THE ARTWORK
View from 37th Avenue is a tactile bronze mural, designed by artist Wayne Chabre to be touched. The imagery depicts familiar Spokane landmarks. The whimsical composition is inspired by Saul Steinberg's 1976 cover for The New Yorker magazine titled "View of the World from 9th Avenue." Expressing themes of interconnectedness and continuity, Chabre notes how he sees "the river, the freeway, the tributary roads...as the circulatory system that carries various nutrients to the City."
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Spokane Public Schools.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
