ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Stephanie Syjuco's Comparative Morphologies series presents contemporary technological equipment in a way that imitates traditional botanical drawings. The objects in this print include a variety of computer cables but some are invented or manipulated to look like plants or other molecular structures.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with University of Washington.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Stephanie Syjuco creates large-scale assemblages and installations of collected objects. Her artworks examine themes of power, economics, and technology.

Born in the Philippines, Syjuco grew up in the U.S. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in sculpture from the San Francisco Art Institute in 1995 and a Master of Fine Arts degree from Stanford University in 2005 (both in California). She is an Assistant Professor of sculpture at the University of California, Berkeley, and is based in Oakland, California.
