2018 GAHA Nominations are now closed


The Awards were established in 1966 to recognize individuals and artists for their significant contributions to the creative vitality of Washington State. Since inception of the program, 153 individuals and organizations have received Arts Awards, and 53 individuals and organizations have been honored with a Heritage Award. To be eligible for either Arts or Heritage Awards, individuals or organizations must be current Washington residents or have resided in the state during the time the contributions were made, and not be a previous recipient of a Governor's Arts Award or Heritage Award.

All nomination materials must be received by 5 p.m., July 13, 2018 (NEW EXTENDED DATE)

By submitting a nomination form, you signify your intent to act as nominator for an individual or an organization for the 2018 Governor's Arts Awards or the 2018 Governor's Heritage Awards. You may make more than one nomination but you must fill out a separate nomination form for each nominee.

Individuals or organizations may be nominated for the Governor's Arts Awards or for the Governor's Heritage Awards - but not both.

To submit multiple forms, complete a form and submit it, then return to our site to begin your next nomination. Reloading the page may be required.

If you know of others nominating the same organization or individual, we encourage you to work together and submit a single nomination.


We strongly encourage you to read these instructions and the GAHA nomination guidelines completely before starting your nomination form.

The nomination form must be completed in one session. In other words, you cannot start a form and return to complete it later. Once you start the form, you must continue until complete and submitted.

Have all information for your nominee ready, including address, phone number(s), email address, website address, and birthdate/age of nominee(s) if you are nominating for the Young Leader Award, before you start the nomination form.

Have all support materials prepared in digital/electronic formats and ready for upload in advance of starting your nomination form. Uploading your support materials is the final step to completing your nomination.

Support Materials

For all nominees:

Nomination Letter (Required)

Your nomination letter serves as the introductory document for your nomination and to your nominee. Outline clearly and succinctly the accomplishments of your nominee. Include the impact the nominee's work has had on a specific and/or broader community. Include why the efforts, achievements, and accomplishments of your nominee are noteworthy and how their efforts have been recognized. If you are nominating for the Governor's Heritage Awards, include information on how your nominee's actions have preserved or promoted ethnic and/or cultural heritage. It is recommended that you keep your nomination letter to one (1) page in length, single-spaced, 12pt font.

Work Samples (Required)

Work samples are examples of your nominee's work. Work samples can play a key role in helping review panelists understand your nominee's accomplishments. Work samples can include images of artwork, videos, audio samples, articles, literary art samples, excerpts from books, etc. Please follow the guidelines for file types and quantities above. A minimum of one work sample is required.

Support Letters (recommended - maximum of three (3) one-page, one-sided letters)

Support letters serve as endorsements from community members and others whose input will serve to bolster your nomination and be valuable as testament of your nominee’s achievements.

If nominating an individual:

Nominee's Biography (Required - limit up to eight (8) pages)

Nominee's Résumé (Optional but recommended - limit up to eight (8) pages)

A résumé or CV is optional if none is available.

If nominating an organization:

Organization History (Recommended - limit four (4) pages)

Provide an overview/timeline, with benchmarks of achievements, of the history of the organization.
