James Luna

(American | Luiseño, born 1950, died 2018)

Late artist James Luna created mixed media and performance-art pieces that deconstructed stereotypical conceptions of Native American and Indigenous identity. Humor and irony played important, healing roles in Luna's work. He resided on the La Jolla Indian Reservation in California. He was of Luiseño, Puyukitchum, Ipai, and Mexican heritage.
