Daniel DeSiga, La Cosecha (The Asparagus Pickers), 48” x 84”, acrylic on board. In Grandview, at the Yakima Valley Community College's (YVCC) new Workforce Education Center, a collection of artworks has been installed in the Allied Health programs lobby and the tasting room of the Vineyard and Winery Technology program.

Curated by Carol Hassen of Ellensburg, this collection features four Eastern Washington artists: Consuelo Soto Murphy of Richland, Pablo Soto of Kennewick, and Daniel DeSiga and William Brennen, both of Yakima. All of the acquired artworks are thematically influenced by the agricultural nature of Central Washington, featuring farm workers and vineyards.

Making Sense, Steve Gardner, cast glass tiles. In YVCC's new Glenn Anthon Hall on the Yakima campus, artist Steven Gardner created two works. Three Allegories of Learning consists of three terra cotta panels based on a series of stories by young writers which, according to the artist, "depict the importance of knowledge, growth, risk, patience and self-initiative."

Making Sense is a series of 12 cast glass panels which Gardner says "feature ideas from the various disciplines taught at YVCC and many of the formulas, quotes and images were developed collaboratively with instructors from YVCC. Also within the clusters of these ideas of learning, are castings with patterns from the natural world of the Yakima Valley (Ponderosa pine bark, basalt texture, etc)."
