Two new artworks by Seattle artist Buster Simpson have been installed on the campus of Walla Walla Community College, Instrument Implement and Poetic License.

View a short film, Walla Walla Bound, that documents the development and installation of the project.

Both artworks were funded through capital construction at the Walla Walla State Penitentiary and installed on the college campus to address the watershed of the local area.

Instrument Implement is located near the Water & Environmental Center between Mill Creek and Titus Creek. The artwork marks the passage of time as well as heralding the environmental conditions of the Walla Walla watershed. The harrow discs that once worked the local loess soils have been transformed into a campanile, or bell tower, tolling the health of the watershed and the returning of the salmon.

Poetic License stamps the words of Walla Walla poets onto license plates created at the State Penitentiary. The artwork is sited on a public walking path adjacent to Mill Creek on campus.

The artworks were dedicated on November 19, 2008, outside of the William A. Grant Water & Environmental Center.
