Art in Public Places - Curator RosterThe Curator Roster provides a pre-qualified list of curators to work with Art in Public Places project managers and local art selection committees to recommend works of art for the State Art Collection that respond to community context and the physical environment.

Role of the CuratorThe curator coordinates with WSAC staff; meets with the committee; researches artists and works of art; prepares the artwork recommendation presentation and support materials; and coordinates the purchase, delivery, and installation of accepted artworks. Curators are typically contracted for approximately 10% of the project budget with a minimum fee of $800. Contract duration is typically under six months.
The curator is expected to respect the committee’s viewpoint and interests, and provide expertise to expand on conceptual and physical opportunities. An eligible curator has a diverse knowledge of professional artists and art forms in the region and the relationships to effectively pursue and purchase the artwork in a timely and cost effective manner. A curator should have the ability to bring a cohesive proposal of prioritized recommendations for works of art and sites to the committee, and honor the committee’s discussion and final approval of selections.
Term LimitCurators accepted to the roster are approved for a six-year period after which they are removed from the roster. Curators removed due to term limits are eligible to reapply during the next open competition.
