Governor's Arts Awards

2005

Warren Chang of Bellevue, musician and master of the Er-Hu, a two-stringed traditional Chinese violin, and head of the Chinese Arts and Music Association.

 

Fabrication Specialties Ltd., an artist-owned firm focused on collaborative public art construction based in Seattle. Owners Larry Tate, Gerald McGinness and Bob Qualheim accepted the award.

 

SEED Arts Program, a non-profit organization with a long history of supporting the arts in South East Seattle. Executive Director Jerri Plumridge accepted the award.

 

Peter Donnelly, retired ArtsFund President, received a “lifetime achievement” award for his support of the arts in Washington State.

 

Recipients of the Governor’s Heritage Awards were: Virginia Beavert of Toppenish, Yakama Nation elder, teacher of sacred songs and ceremonies, and of Yakama Sahaptin and other Plateau languages; Wilho Saari of Naselle, a Finnish-American musician and master of the kantele (the traditional Finnish zither); and the Wapato Indian Club, a Native American heritage club and dance troupe from Wapato Middle School on the Yakama Reservation, Director Margaret Carter accepted the award.
