Al Zantua lives in Tacoma, Washington and is of Tsimshian and Haida heritage. He is a carver and painter of traditional Northwest Coast imagery. Al shares and educates others about his culture by performing traditional Tsimshian and Haida dances and songs and serving as an arts and culture teacher for the Chief Leschi Schools in Puyallup. He has traveled to Europe and South America to share authentic Native American culture with audiences outside the United States. Zantua has received the Excellence in the Arts Award from the City of Tacoma, and the Margaret K. Williams Excellence in the Arts Award from the Pierce County Arts Commission.

 

In 1999 Al Zantua was awarded a Fellowship grant to recognize his outstanding contributions to his culture and community, maintaining cultural traditions.
