Christos Govetas was born in the Greek village of Proti and immigrated to the United States in 1978. Now living in Puyallup, Washington, Govetas continues to carry on his culture as a traditional Greek musician playing the bouzouki, laouto, oud, clarinet and zourna as well as performing vocals. He has performed throughout the U.S., Canada, and Greece, and regularly in the Seattle area with a group called Pangeo. As well as performing, Govetas also teaches younger generations in the Seattle area Greek community traditional songs and dances, and how to play the traditional instruments in hopes that the folk music of Greece will be carried on.

In 1999 Christos was awarded a Folk Arts Fellowship to recognize his outstanding contributions to preserving traditional Greek cultural traditions.
