Folk Arts - Fellowships
The first Fellowship Awards were given in July 1997. These are $5,000 unrestricted awards to recognize outstanding traditional artists for their contributions to their culture and community. They are not related to the Apprenticeship Program or any project grants. They are based solely on recognition of past and continuing merit in maintaining cultural traditions.

As a Tlingit, Frank Fulmer has steeped himself in the oral histories of his people, becoming a primary carrier of culture himself and a master traditional carver. He is a 2003 Fellowship recipient.
