Folk Arts - Fellowship Guidelines

Traditional folk arts are defined as those artistic practices which have a community base and express that community's heritage. This includes such communities as ethnic, tribal, occupational, regional and religious groups.

 

The WSAC Folk Arts Fellowships are available to traditional artists residing in Washington State whose work meet the following criteria:

 

  • Traditional significance of the art form
  • Relation of the artist to the community (in most cases the artist must be from the community whose art is practiced)
  • Significance of the art form to the community
  • Degree to which the artist is participating in the community as a teacher and/or cultural leader
  • The urgency, especially for preserving endangered art forms

 

The application deadline was April 4, 2008. The application accessible below will be updated for the next application cycle. It is made available to provide general information about the scope of the program and the application requirements.
