Biography: Ron Littke has worked throughout the United States as an actor, comedy writer, performance and video artist. Littke’s video work involves documentary style narratives that focus on little known historic events or places, and raise questions about the nature of history. He also produces shorter pieces based on dream images. Littke's video work has been presented throughout the United States and Europe. He has been a contributing producer for CBS This Morning, ABC Evening News, MTV News and Deep Dish TV. He is currently working as an artist in residence in both New York and Washington State schools.
When asked about his approach as a Teaching Artist, Mr. Littke wrote this: “As a teaching artist I work with a group of students to create a video using either live actors or simple animation with clay figures and pop-up cutouts. The students learn how to write a script, create the figures and background scenery, play the characters, supply the voices for the characters and shoot and edit the video. The subject of the video often ties into another part of the classroom curriculum. I see myself as a guide into the world of art. I want students to explore the terrain themselves, to experiment and have fun. Making a movie is a collaboration that involves writing, visual art, photography and acting. In order to be successful, students must work together. As a teacher I am patient. I see students as individuals and I work with their particular strengths. I love the medium of video and get excited about the students’ projects. I see them as fellow filmmakers and they see me as one of their collaborators.”
