When asked about her approach as a Teaching Artist, Ms. Lareau wrote this: "My philosophy and my purpose as a teaching artist are the same. Arts are essential to every student’s education and growth. Theatre can be a powerful tool in the classroom. It speaks directly to many students, especially those who learn best in a kinesthetic manner. Theatre brings words, concepts and curriculum to life. My goal is to create a memorable experience that seamlessly fuses students’ theatre experience with current classroom curriculum. I believe my distinctive strengths as a teaching artist come from my extensive, professional, improvisational theatre experience, working with theatre groups both within the United States and in other countries. My skills with improvisational theatre are the foundation of my arts curriculum. They also allow me to flow with whatever happens, adjusting on my feet to the students’ or teacher’s needs and accomplishing my task even amongst chaos."
