When asked about her approach as a Teaching Artist, Ms. Foley wrote this: "As a teaching artist I hope to demystify glass by giving students the opportunity to work with glass, possibly for the first time. I enjoy illuminating the magic of glass and showing students how science and math apply to glass making. I feel I can make an impact on a student’s interest in science and math and their connection to art. I also introduce students to the colors, shapes and patterns in art and in the world around them. I offer students an opportunity to explore these qualities in a new medium. In the classroom, I create a positive and exciting learning environment. One of my distinctive strengths as a teaching artist is my ability to explain aspects of fused glass in a simple, easy to understand and age-appropriate manner that captures students’ interest and inspires curiosity and questions. After the class, students will have a greater understanding of glass and the science behind it."
