Biography: A committed practicing artist, Jeanne Dodds works in a range of media, including photography and illustration. Her educational background encompasses a BFA in Photography, a certificate in Scientific illustration, and numerous workshops and classes in the fields of education and the arts. Through her arts-based business, Artemis, she instructs art classes for students grades K-12 and adults for non-profit organizations, museums, and schools throughout the west.
When asked about her approach as a Teaching Artist, Ms. Dodds wrote this: "I see my role in teaching as a creative facilitator. My goal is to provide students with a practical foundation to create art, and to foster and encourage their confidence. Students learn new techniques and develop skill in art processes, discover the connections between art and other disciplines, such as science, music, and writing, and develop a regard for, and interest in, art no matter where future experiences might take them. I particularly enjoy teaching concepts, terminology, and technique at a deeper level. I foster each student’s creative promise through constructive feedback, rather than evaluating student work in a black/white, good/bad context. Each grade level has its own unique limitations, challenges, and rewards, and I find them all fascinating to work with."
