Arts in Education - Resources & ProjectsOur Arts in Education program supports the arts as an essential part of K-12 education through community partnerships, research, training, and grants. In addition to Community Consortia and First Step grants, we promote research and programs that support every child's right to a well-rounded education that includes the arts.
Poetry Out Loud, a national poetry recitation competition has expanded to reach more Washington students in its third year. This exciting program helps students master public speaking skills, build self-confidence, and learn about their literary heritage.
In past years we have invited every community in the state to join with Governor Chris Gregoire and us in celebrating Arts Education Week as a symbol of the importance of arts education all year long.
The Arts Education Resources Initiative was initially funded with a grant from Washington Mutual in order to identify and encourage use of proven arts education practices. The project’s website and print materials offer research-based ideas and support for effective practices, as well as specific action agendas that principals, teachers, parents, school districts, and community arts providers can use to work toward high quality arts education for all students.
