Gov. proclaims April as National Poetry Month in the State of Washington
April marks the 20th anniversary of National Poetry Month, which was inaugurated by the Academy of American Poets in 1996. It has since become the largest literary celebration in the world.
Governor Jay Inslee proclaimed the month of April as National Poetry Month in the State of Washington and encouraged citizens to participate in activities that celebrate poetry of all genres. The proclamation also recognizes Washington 129, an anthology of poems to be written by Washingtonians. State Poet Laureate Tod Marshall announced the project as a part of his activities for National Poetry Month.
